5 Household Products You Can Use To Clean Shower Door Tracks

Cleaning shower door tracks is not a daily or even weekly task, but it still needs to get done every so often, especially if mold or mildew has begun to grow on the tracks or the shower doors keep getting stuck.

The good news is that many household products help you clean your shower door tracks! Here are our top five options.

Method #1. White vinegar

This acidic household product works best at dissolving hard water stains or mold, some of the most common things to dirty shower door tracks!

To use this method:

  1. Fill a bottle halfway with plain water and the rest with white vinegar.
  2. Spray the track with the solution and give it ten to thirty minutes to work (depending on how much grime there is).
  3. After the time’s passed, use a microfiber cloth to wipe the tracks and rinse with clean water.

Method #2. Baking soda

This product is very versatile, and the most helpful quality for this task is its antifungal properties. Baking soda will help if you’re dealing with mildew on the shower tracks.

To use this method:

  1. Mix baking soda with water until you have a paste similar in texture to toothpaste.
  2. Put the paste on the tracks with the help of a small plastic knife or spatula and wait for thirty minutes to an hour.
  3. After the time’s passed, wipe the paste off with a microfiber cloth, scrub the paste residue on the tracks with a toothbrush, and rinse with clean water.

Method #3. Lemon

Lemon is antibacterial and antiseptic, which helps if your shower tracks have mold or mildew. Plus, mixed with salt, it gets a little more scrubbing power!

To clean your shower tracks with a lemon, you have two options:

  1. Dip a lemon wedge in salt and rub it on the shower tracks.
  2. Make a paste with lemon juice and salt, then scrub it on the tracks with a toothbrush.

Leave the tracks with the lemon residue for half an hour and then rinse with clean water.

Method #4. Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide (specifically the 3% type) helps loosen stains. Plus, mixed with the grime-trapping qualities of dish soap, these products make for the perfect cleaners for your shower door tracks.

To use hydrogen peroxide as a cleaner:

  1. Mix one cup of hydrogen peroxide and a few splashes of dish soap in a spray bottle.
  2. Spray the tracks with the solution and let them soak for five minutes (ten if the shower tracks are too dirty).
  3. Use a small brush or a toothbrush to scrub the tracks, then rinse with clean water.

Method #5. Hot salt water

Hot water is one of the most basic ways to loosen up grime, and when mixed with a mild antibacterial such as salt, this simple combination works wonders at removing dirt on shower door tracks.

To clean shower door tracks with this method:

  1. Heat water and add one tablespoon of salt to each cup of water.
  2. Carefully pour the water over the tracks and use a toothbrush to scrub.
  3. Once you’re done cleaning, simply pour clean cold water over the tracks to rinse the salt.

Can I just use store-bought cleaners?

If you don’t care much about going DIY, the simple answer is yes! You only need to follow the instructions on the label and use a toothbrush or cloth to help you reach the crevices. Just make sure to select the correct cleaner for the type of grime you’re dealing with.
